It is lightweight, non-corrosive, and it's one piece design eliminates one of the common points of water intrusion, the removable back. Timex was the only company to produce the B version of the MIL-W-46374 in a plastic case and then offered it to the general public as the Camper.

This particular model is sometimes referred to as the MacGyver since Richard Dean Anderson wore one in the MacGyver TV Series. This is the original Camper, with the rugged M116 mechanical movement.

Unlike the Japanese reissue, it does not have a quartz movement or removable back. If you are a hiker, camper, or hunter, this is the ideal watch. This watch has been serviced and refurbished, as described below. It has been fitted with a new NATO style nylon band, electronically timed, and is ready to wear. Its excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition make it suitable as a gift to someone who appreciates vintage timepieces.

Proper servicing of vintage watches is necessary to ensure continued proper operation. Although many old Timexes will run and may keep reasonably good time after sitting in a drawer for several years, I have found this condition to be temporary at best, due to the drying out of lubricants. Continued operation of unserviced movements inevitably results in wear, inaccurate time keeping, and eventual failure. I have been servicing Timex watches for over ten years, mostly for my own collection, using the following process, which was also applied to this watch: ¨ Remove movement from case, disassemble, and prepare for cleaning. ¨ Clean movement with approved solvents in accordance with the Timex service manual.

¨ Reassemble and lubricate pivots with Moebius synthetic watch oil. ¨ Clean case in ultrasonic cleaner. ¨ Remove and polish crystal using four step process to remove dirt and scratches. ¨ Manually clean hands and dial. ¨ Replace any damaged or worn parts (for example, crystal, stem/crown assembly) with exact factory replacements ¨ Inspect seals and replace as necessary. ¨ Reassemble and check for smooth winding, proper setting of hands, and operation of date functions. ¨ Analyze with an electronic timer to detect erratic operation and to adjust within 1 minute per day accuracy. ¨ Fit with new or vintage, period appropriate, watch band.
